Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay comfortably cleared the confidence motion in the Assembly after securing support from Congress, IUML, CPI, CPI(M), VCK and sections of AIADMK MLAs.
Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay successfully passed the crucial floor test in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly with support from 144 MLAs, solidifying the TVK-led government's position after days of political uncertainty.
The trust vote witnessed dramatic political developments as multiple opposition legislators extended support to the new government. The alliance received backing from Congress, IUML, VCK, CPI and CPI(M), while a faction within AIADMK also voted in favour of the confidence motion.
The Assembly session turned into one of the most closely watched political events in recent Tamil Nadu history, marking the first time in decades that a non-DMK or non-AIADMK leader assumed power in the state.
Following the victory, CM Vijay thanked alliance partners and promised a governance model focused on transparency, welfare schemes, education reforms and employment generation for youth across Tamil Nadu.
The Chief Minister also announced the closure of 717 TASMAC liquor shops located near schools, bus stands and religious places as part of the government's first major reform initiative.
Security was tightened across Chennai during the Assembly proceedings while TVK supporters celebrated outside Fort St. George after the results of the floor test were announced.
